City becomes Angel Town

Greatness, someone once said, only occurs under difficult circumstances.

The tragic event that played out Oct. 1 in Las Vegas produced those very circumstances. The response of our fellow Las Vegans, under extremely adverse conditions, conveyed bravery beyond belief. The courage shown by our police, fire and medical personnel went way beyond praiseworthy — in many cases, it was heroic.

Many spectators, at great risk to their own lives, instantly transformed into first responders and reached out to provide aid to total strangers. Blood donation lines began forming shortly after 3 a.m. Oct. 2.

Las Vegas headliner/entertainer Frankie Moreno, who donated the entire proceeds of his most recent performance to the families of the victims, said it best when he proclaimed that “Sin City” became “Angel Town” on that night and on the days that followed.
