Police: Central valley shooting likely happened during drug deal

A shootout during a possible drug deal in a central valley parking lot left a man dead, one in critical condition and another on the run late Tuesday, according to Metro Police.

Up to 20 gunshots rang off about 10 p.m. at 1135 E. Desert Inn Road, near Maryland Parkway, police said.

Officers arrived and found a man’s body in a pickup truck and a man outside the vehicle suffering from five gunshot wounds, Lt. Dan McGrath said in a briefing broadcast online.

An initial investigation determined the men met in the truck and talked for several minutes before gunfire erupted, police said.

The suspect, who was seen running south, was described as a black man with dreadlocks, police said. He wore a baseball cap, a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans, police said.

The wounded man, who was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition, was described as being Hispanic, and the fatally wounded man was described as a white man about 25 years of age, police said.
