Dwayne Morgan transferring to Southern Utah

UNLV over Dakota Wesleyan

UNLV’s Dwayne Morgan (15) greets a young fan after the Dakota Wesleyan victory in the basketball team’s first exhibition basketball game at the Thomas & Mack Center on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016.

Dwayne Morgan is moving on, but the former Runnin’ Rebel won’t be moving far.

It was announced Thursday that Morgan will transfer to Southern Utah in December to finish out his final two years of eligibility:

Morgan was suspended indefinitely from the UNLV basketball team in May after a late-night incident that saw Morgan arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. In August, the school announced that Morgan was off the team and would not play for the Rebels again, though he would continue to take classes toward graduation in December.

Morgan will be eligible to play for Southern Utah this season once the second semester begins, and he’ll have one more full year of eligibility beyond this season.

Former UNLV assistant and interim head coach Todd Simon is currently the head coach at Southern Utah, so he should be familiar with Morgan’s game. The 6-foot-8 forward is a strong defender and an athletic finisher in the open floor, though he has yet to develop his shooting range (career 40.1 shooting percentage).

Morgan has battled multiple injuries during his college career, and a shoulder issue limited to eight games for UNLV in 2016-17.
