A relative of a murder defendant is accused of intentionally driving a car onto a Las Vegas courthouse sidewalk, hitting and injuring the slaying victim's sister, authorities said Tuesday.
A four-hour search after the lunchtime Monday incident resulted in the arrest of Shaquilla Monique Stafford, 44, at an address in North Las Vegas, police said.
The white or cream-colored Cadillac sedan she is accused of driving away from the crash outside the Regional Justice Center was not immediately found, police Officer Larry Hadfield said.
Court records show that Stafford also uses the last name Brown.
Court officials and police said she is related to Asa Javon Brown, 24, the man standing trial in the September 2016 shooting death of 47-year-old Jessie Mann Bush at a Las Vegas apartment complex.
The woman injured in the crash was identified in court as Bush's sister, Queva Stafford. Police said she received a leg injury and was treated at University Medical Center.
Both women attended the first morning of testimony in the trial, but police said they may have had a separate dispute and the allegedly intentional attack may not have stemmed from court proceedings.
Police said the driver was apparently alone in the Cadillac, which witnesses said struck Queva Stafford on the sidewalk near the main courthouse public entrance.
Shaquilla Stafford was freed on $18,000 bail pending an initial court appearance on felony charges including battery with a deadly weapon, the vehicle. She also faces charges of carrying an illegal concealed weapon and possession of a weapon with an obscured serial number.
Her court date and the name of her lawyer weren't immediately available in public records.
