Motorcycle-car crash kills 2 near Warm Springs, Eastern

Updated Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 | 11:25 p.m.

A motorcyclist and a motorist are dead following a Tuesday night crash in the south valley, according to Metro Police.

The two men died at the scene, Sgt. Robert Stauffer said.

First responders were summoned about 8:30 p.m. to Warm Springs Road and Paradise Bay Drive, near Eastern Avenue, police said.

The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old, was westbound on Warm Springs when a 43-year-old in a 1999 Honda Civic exiting a residential area on Paradise Bay drove in front of him, Stauffer said.

The crash remained under investigation late Tuesday and it wasn’t immediately clear who was at fault, Stauffer said.

Witness statements indicate the motorcyclist, who might have tried driving around the car, may have been speeding, Stauffer said. The magnitude of the crash, which caused the motorcycle to catch fire, validated the statements, he added.

There was no early indication that impairment contributed to the crash, Stauffer said.

With temperatures dropping, this is the season when more pedestrians and cyclists are on valley roads and motorists should be aware, Stauffer said, adding that no time of year is appropriate for reckless driving.
