Patrol: Trooper injured in crash after car runs red light

A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was hospitalized Monday after her cruiser collided with a car that ran a red light, authorities said.

The trooper, who was only identified as a 13-year veteran, was released from University Medical Center several hours after the noon crash on Russell Road and the 215 Beltway, the patrol said.

The driver of the other car, who wasn’t injured, was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal, the patrol said.

“Law enforcement is an inherently dangerous profession. However, for law enforcement, especially Highway Patrol, driving is the most dangerous part of the job,” officials said in a news release.
