Nevada governor urges Congress to fund children’s health program

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval today urged Congress to continue sending money to Nevada for the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which serves more than 26,000 youngsters.

The program is set to expire Saturday, and Sandoval said it was essential that children have access to health care.

“Failure to reauthorize this program will leave low-income families who are ineligible for Medicaid but cannot afford private insurance without access to health care,” he said.

The federal government pays 99 percent of the program operating cost of $43 million a year.
