Henderson police arrest wounded suspect who struck officers with car

A man who allegedly struck two Henderson Police officers with a car after a Sunday night altercation, and who subsequently was shot at by one of the cops, was identified, located and arrested Monday night.

Gunfire from the officer seemingly hit Larry Calvert, who was hospitalized with at least two gunshot wounds, police said.

Marcella Levia, who police said was with the 27-year-old suspect during the interaction, also was located and transported to a hospital. She was run over by Calvert during the incident in the 2600 block of Windmill Parkway.

As of late Monday, Calvert was in surgery and Levia was in stable condition, police said.

A patrol officer approached a trio — Calvert, Levia, 26, and Summer Waters, 26 — who were involved in unspecified “suspicious activity,” about 8:10 p.m. in a shopping center on Windmill, police said. They ignored the officer’s commands, and an altercation ensued as a second officer arrived to assist, police said.

Calvert then got into a car, where Levia was already seated in the front passenger seat, and struck both officers with the vehicle as he attempted to flee, police said. One officer fired his gun several times, police said.

The 1998 Toyota Camry involved in the incident was found by a local-federal police task force about 5:20 p.m. in the 3000 block of Morning Wind Lane, near Cheyenne Avenue and Buffalo Drive, police said. An uninvolved person driving the car told officers that Calvert and Levia were in a residence in the same street.

The man and woman exited the house when officers arrived — Calvert had gunshot wounds and Levia injuries from being run over, police said.

Calvert faces two counts of battery with a deadly weapon, police said. The women, both 26, were described as persons of interest.

The incident was the first officer-involved shooting in Henderson this year.
