Highway linking Phoenix and Las Vegas reopens to traffic

Updated Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018 | 2:18 p.m.

The main highway linking Phoenix and Las Vegas was temporarily closed in both directions today near Hoover Dam after a man threatened to jump from a bridge, authorities said.

The man was subsequently taken into custody, and U.S. 93 was reopened, the Nevada Highway Patrol announced about 2 p.m.

Metro Police Officer Aden OcampoGomez said the situation on the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge prompted the closure of U.S. 93 in the area. The bridge crosses the Colorado River near the dam.
