Suspect in Las Vegas slaying arrested in Nebraska

A suspect in a Las Vegas slaying was arrested this morning by SWAT officers in Nebraska when the bus he was on made a scheduled stop in Lincoln, according to authorities.

Johnny Arkis Wilson, 36, is suspected in the fatal shooting of Otis Lee Turner, whose body was found on the street in the 2700 block of North Walnut Road, south of Cheyenne Avenue, on Aug. 23.

The 28-year-old man died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Clark County coroner’s office said.

During an investigation, Metro detectives identified Wilson as the gunman and on Monday filed an arrest warrant, Las Vegas Justice Court records show.

A person who had encountered a gravely wounded Turner flagged down a patrol officer about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 23, saying that he’d possibly been hit by a car, police said.

Medics determined that was not the case, and police at the time theorized that Wilson may have been shot at a separate location.

This morning, state authorities in Nebraska received information from Metro that Wilson was traveling on a bus headed to Lincoln.

Police there dispatched a SWAT team, which took Wilson into custody.

When confronted, “Wilson denied he was Johnny Wilson,” Lincoln police wrote on Twitter.
