President Donald Trump says he opposes better gas mileage for vehicles — and saving you money at the pump — because he’s afraid people will drive more if gas is cheaper, leading to more accidents. This is his stated reasoning, and we should all be outraged.
Clean car rules were put in place to not only save you money by increasing your vehicle’s fuel efficiency, but also to help reduce harmful pollution that smogs up our cities, makes people sick and drives climate change.
Trump’s nonreason to roll back these win-win standards reveals his penchant for governing based solely out of spite for the previous administration. If Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., had a backbone, he would stand up to Trump’s reckless policies on behalf of all Nevadans.
