Burglary suspects nabbed in Boulder City, stolen gun recovered

Three people suspected in burglaries across Southern Nevada and California were arrested Thursday morning in Boulder City, according to authorities.

Inside a vehicle occupied by the suspects — who weren’t publicly identified — officers found a stolen gun, jewelry and loose cash, but also backpacks lined with aluminum foil, a tactic often used to trip up sensors at store alarms, police said.

The Glock handgun had been reported stolen in Southern California, police said.

A resident reported to authorities seeing two men leaving a house and running through backyards of a Boulder City neighborhood shortly before 11 a.m., police said.

“The caller described the men and the silver car they left in,” police said in a news release.

A motorcycle officer, Ian Ham, responded and spotted a silver Kia with New York license plates, and followed it as it was leaving the city on Veterans Memorial Highway.

Backup arrived and the Kia was pulled over, police said. “There were no incidents with the people in the car, but the female driver and one of the passengers had conflicting stories about the identity of the third man in the car,” Ham said in the news release.

All three were arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center, police said. One of the men was wanted on warrants.

The investigation was ongoing Friday and investigators were to comb through the car to see if any of the items were stolen in Boulder City or elsewhere.

“We wouldn’t have known to look for that car if it wasn’t for an alert neighbor," said Sgt. John Glenn in the release. “We are fortunate that residents here watch out for one another. It’s truly rewarding when teamwork between residents and police gets suspects off the streets.”
