Letter to the editor:

EPA boss must be pro-environment

Andrew Wheeler was hired as deputy administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency just before Scott Pruitt resigned amid 14 counts of fraud and misuse of public funds. Wheeler has been acting director ever since. Now he’s been nominated to take on to take the job permanently.

With his background as a lobbyist for the largest coal mining company in the country, his work with uranium mining companies and his efforts to work against environmental regulations, Wheeler was another poor choice from the outset.

Now that even science agencies inside the Trump administration have reported that climate change is real, we need to get serious about supporting the EPA and ensure it has the funding and the leadership to meet its mission.

Nevada senators must vote no on the Wheeler nomination. There are undoubtedly much better qualified candidates to lead us into a safer future.
