Pedestrian, 78, killed by suspected DUI driver on Boulder Highway

A 78-year-old pedestrian in an east valley crosswalk Monday night was fatally struck by a car, whose driver was subsequently arrested, according to Metro Police.

Stephen Marker, 54, was accused of driving while impaired, police said.

The elderly Las Vegas woman, who was crossing on Boulder Highway at Indios Avenue, died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

Marker had left the scene of the crash, but returned after witnesses followed him to a nearby gas station, police said.

He was arrested on counts of DUI, duty to stop at the scene of a crash and failure to yield, Las Vegas Justice Court Records show. It wasn't clear where he is being held, though he was booked without bond, records show.

The victim was crossing from east to west in a marked crosswalk when a 2002 BMW X5, which was heading west on Indios, turned onto the woman, who was thrown to the ground, police said.

This was the 128th traffic fatality investigated by Metro this year.
