Union: Workers reach tentative labor deal with Plaza hotel

A union representing thousands of Las Vegas casino workers seeking new contracts has reached a tentative labor agreement with the operator of the Plaza.

The Culinary Union announced Monday the five-year deal will cover more than 300 workers at the downtown Las Vegas property.

Details about the agreement were not immediately available, but generally, it includes wage increases and job security language.

The agreement would cover bartenders, housekeepers, cocktail and food servers and other workers whose contract expired May 31. They were among the thousands of Las Vegas workers who authorized a strike in May after a lack of progress on negotiations.

A walkout will be avoided at the Plaza if its unionized workers ratify the contract.

The union is still negotiating agreements with 13 casino-resorts involving 8,000 workers.
