Police investigating fatal weekend shooting in North Las Vegas

A man was shot to death Sunday night following a confrontation in North Las Vegas, police said.

Officers were dispatched about 11 p.m. to the 2100 block of East Cheyenne Avenue to investigate reports of an injured person and found a 39-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates the shooting took place a short distance away, near the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive, police said.

The victim and an unknown male got into a confrontation that escalated into a shooting, police said. The suspect fled before officers arrived.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and they are not ready to release a description of the suspect.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name after his family has been notified, police said.
