UNLV sophomore quarterback Armani Rogers has been named to the Maxwell Award watch list, which was released today by the Maxwell Football Club.

The award goes to college football’s top player at the end of each season. Oklahoma’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Baker Mayfield won it last year.

It’s an expansive watch list — 85 players are on it — but Rogers is one of only 13 sophomores and five Mountain West Conference players to make the cut.

In nine starts last season, Rogers completed 52.4 percent of his passes for 1,471 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. He also broke a school record for single-season rushing yards by a quarterback, with 780, and added eight scores with his legs.

Rogers, who was named Mountain West freshman of the year last fall, is the first Rebel to be named to the list since wide receiver Devante Davis in 2014.
