City Councilman Ricki Barlow speaks during a meeting of the Las Vegas City Council Wednesday, July 19, 2017.

Ricki Barlow, the former Las Vegas councilman convicted of stealing thousands of dollars from his campaign during his 2015 re-election bid, will serve a month behind bars, according to the Department of Justice.

Barlow, who was sentenced today, will subsequently spend three months in a halfway house and eight months under house arrest, officials said. Additionally, he was fined $66,125 and will serve three years of probation upon his release, officials said.

Through kickbacks from campaign vendors, Barlow stole roughly $50,000 during the 2015 campaign, officials said.

He convinced campaign vendors to submit inflated invoices, and upon payment, the vendors would return to him a portion of the payment, usually in cash, officials said.

Barlow admitted he accepted $17,000 in cash campaign contributions he never reported or transferred to his campaign, instead diverting the funds for person use, officials said.

To camouflage the activity, his campaign submitted false campaign finance reports to the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office, officials said.

The FBI investigated the case.
