Elderly woman trapped in burning car has died from injuries

An elderly motorist, who on Saturday evening was pulled from her car by Metro Police officers after a fire and then a crash, has died, officials said Wednesday.

Marcia Davis, 78, was heading west on Charleston Boulevard, near Redwood Street, about 5:20 p.m., when a compartment on the back seat caught fire, police said.

When Davis tried turning onto a private road, she crashed her 2015 Buick Verano into a light pole, which trapped her in the locked car, police said. That’s when nearby Metro officers broke the driver’s side window, opened the door and removed her.

She died Wednesday at University Medical Center, where she’d been rushed with serious burns, police said.
