Father blamed for 2-year-old’s death for not locking gun

Prosecutors say the fatal shooting of a 2-year-old boy in a Las Vegas apartment could have been avoided if the boy's father had locked up his gun.

KSNV-TV in Las Vegas reports that Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said Tuesday in court that the boy's mother urged 26-year-old Michael Logan to lock up his loaded gun two days earlier.

Messiah Logan died on May 30 when he was shot while playing with four young children.

Defense attorney Doug Crawford has said Logan was asleep and did nothing wrong when his son was fatally shot by another child.

Logan is charged with two counts of child abuse resulting in bodily harm.

Crawford accuses prosecutors of unfairly blaming Logan because he is black. Wolfson says that claim is ridiculous.
