LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

It’s time for Pruitt to resign

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt is a climate change denier. In an interview with CNBC in early 2017, he said carbon dioxide was not known to be a major factor in climate change and that human activity had no effect on our changing climate.

Finally, this month, a U.S. District Court Judge in Washington, D.C., told the EPA that it must provide documentation relied on to form its decisions. We will see the reasoning that leads the Trump administration and Pruitt to think it’s OK to eliminate successes made over the past 48 years — reduced air pollution, protections for water quality, safety for citizens in areas where our lands have been polluted, protecting ecosystems that are important to our health, food supplies and more.

The EPA is critical to our future. We only have one Earth. Policies put in place today can support or jeopardize our lives for years to come. And we all know it is more costly to clean up a mess than to do it right the first time.

What we really need is an EPA administrator who believes in and supports the mission of the agency. Pruitt is not that person. His backward thinking on climate change and his many ethical violations attest to that.
