Clark County School District cuts $68 million, 500 positions

Cuts in spending at Las Vegas area schools will result in the loss of more than 500 positions in the Clark County School District.

But the district said Tuesday only about two dozen teachers and other support staff will lose their jobs because the vast majority are being reassigned to positions that are currently vacant.

The district says the balanced budget the school board approved in May cuts $68 million from its budget for the 2018-19 school year.

A total of 400 teaching and other licensed positions are being eliminated districtwide, along with 104 support staff and nearly 60 administrative positions.

The district says fewer than five teachers have yet to be reassigned to open positions, along with fewer than 20 support staff. All the affected administrators already have been reassigned.
