Reno Rodeo looks to become bigger player in sport

RENO — The Reno Rodeo wants to become a bigger player in the sport.

The association that manages the rodeo recently announced a $120 million plan to revamp the Reno Livestock Events Center.

A committee of the Reno Rodeo Association says it hasn't sorted out finances yet. But it's looking at public and private partnerships.

The current arena is decades old and can hold 9,000 people. A new area would accommodate a crowd of 15,000.

The Reno Gazette Journal reports that plans also call for a 52,000 square-foot exhibit hall, more horse stalls and a bigger parking lot.

Rodeo association Chairman Clint Thiesse says the old arena would be demolished.
