Richard “The Old Man” Harrison and his son Rick Harrison arrive on the red carpet after a performance of “Pawn Shop Live!” on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas.

Richard Benjamin Harrison, better known as “The Old Man” on the Las Vegas-based reality TV show “Pawn Stars,” died over the weekend, according to son Rick Harrison’s Gold & Silver Pawn Facebook page.

Harrison, 77, who appeared on the History Channel show with Rick Harrison and grandson Corey, was surrounding by family and died peacefully, according to the social media account.

“He will be remembered as the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather you could have by family and by fans as the sometimes grumpy, (always loving, however), often wisecracking, and voice of absolute reason on the History television show “Pawn Stars,” the Facebook post said.

The show, which debuted in 2009, revolves around the cast haggling to purchase items at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, which specializes in rare collectibles, art and memorabilia.

The History Channel tweeted its condolences to the Harrison family, stating: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Richard “The Old Man” Harrison, a beloved member of the History and Pawn Stars family. He will be greatly missed for his wisdom and candor. Our thoughts are with the Harrison family during this difficult time.”

Plans for a memorial service were pending.
