Groups working to continue Lake Tahoe fireworks display

RENO — The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority and other groups are providing emergency funds to continue an annual Fourth of July fireworks display in the Lake Tahoe.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority board's voted Thursday to provide $25,000 for the fireworks display in Incline Village, south of Reno.

Event organizer Red, White and Tahoe Blue is having problems managing its debt and struggling with volunteer and leadership turnover.

The organization says it needs to raise $225,000 to pay for event expenses as well as service its debt.

The organization had raised about $92,000 prior to Thursday.

Incline Village Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau has said it will provide $10,000 to the event.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has also committed to help with unpaid expenses after the event.
