A man was shot dead by a Metro Police officer at an extended stay hotel today after the man advanced on officers with a knife, authorities said.

Metro responded to a report of a domestic dispute about 11:45 a.m. today at Siegel Suites, 2000 Paradise Ave., near Las Vegas Boulevard South and East St. Louis Avenue, Metro Sgt. Jeff Clark said.

Police arrived to find the victim outside the apartment and determined she had called police and was a victim of a battery at the complex, Clark said. Several officers knocked on the door of the unit where the woman and her boyfriend reportedly lived, Clark said.

The man, armed with a knife, opened the door, began to scream at officers and refused orders to drop the knife, Clark said. When he moved forward, officers shot him dead, police said.

Siegel Suites resident Donald Calhoun said he was lying in bed watching television when he heard a woman pleading for help outside a nearby apartment.

About 15 minutes later, Calhoun — an Inglewood, Calif. resident visiting Las Vegas this week — said he heard five to seven gunshots.

“(They were) all at once, and then it stopped,” he said.

No additional details were released.

This is the fourth officer-involved shooting this year in Metro’s jurisdiction.
