Rapper Kanye West, a supporter of President Donald Trump, has been invited to speak at the Clark County Republican Party’s biennial convention in Las Vegas this weekend.
Clark County GOP Chairman Carl Bunce tweeted the invitation to the 40-year-old entertainer Wednesday morning, including the hashtags #KeepAmericaGreat and #Kanye2024. He said West has not responded and conceded it’s “unlikely” West will accept.
“It’d obviously be chaotic if it did happen, but it’s all to show the Republican Party, like Kanye, is a party of freethinkers,” Bunce said.
Last month, West tweeted out his support for Trump, posing for a photo in a Make America Great Again hat. And on Tuesday, he sparked controversy when he suggested during an interview with TMZ that slavery was “a choice.”
Bunce said the rapper is “entitled to his thoughts.”
“He’s encouraging people to think for themselves,” Bunce said. “He’s definitely hit a chord with some conservative, right-leaning activists.”
