Man faces DUI count after motorcyclist dies in crash

The driver of a pickup truck was arrested on a DUI count after he ran a red light early Sunday and hit a motorcycle, killing the rider, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was turning left from the northbound Interstate 15 off-ramp at Flamingo Road when the pickup ran a red light and hit the motorcycle, which collided with a taxi, the patrol said.

The motorcyclist, Keith Welshiemer, 52, of Las Vegas was pronounced dead at University Medical Center, the patrol said.

The driver of the pickup, Juan C. Valtierrez, 47, was treated for minor injuries and released, the patrol said.

Valtierrez was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on counts of DUI-alcohol, reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, failure to obey a traffic control device, failure to render aid, resisting a public officer, failure to decrease speed or use due care, being a resident with non-Nevada driver’s license and registration, and driving with a suspended driver’s license, the patrol said.
