Police ID officer who shot woman wielding shovel

Metro Police say a 23-year-old officer who has been with the department for two years shot and injured a woman who had a shovel and was "acting erratically" over the weekend.

Metro said in a statement Monday night that Officer Ondre Wills was among those responding to the incident Saturday night in east Las Vegas.

Police spokesman Lt. Peter Kisfalvi said the woman was told to put the shovel down but approached a bystander. Wills then shot the woman. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

KVVU-TV reports the woman's name has not yet been released.

Kisfalvi says no one else was injured.

The department says Wills has been placed on routine paid lead pending a review of the incident.
