Festival goers get sprayed with confetti during Marshmello’s set at the Kinetic Field stage during day three of the Electric Daisy Carnival music festival, Sunday, June 19, 2017.

U.S. 95 will be closed at Interstate 15 this weekend, just as people hit the road for the annual Electric Daisy Carnival.

More than 100,000 people a night trek to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the three-day music festival, which starts Friday. The speedway is northeast of the interchange.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will close U.S. 95 in both directions at I-15 near downtown Las Vegas from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

“It was unavoidable, since the following weekend is Memorial Day,” NDOT spokesman Tony Illia said. “EDC moved up its festival date by a month, which also threw off our closure planning. However, Interstate 15 and the Spaghetti Bowl ramps will still stay open, thereby minimizing traffic impacts.”

The closure is necessary for bridge construction as part of the third and final phase of work on Project Neon, a nearly $1 billion, four-mile widening of I-15 from U.S. 95 to Sahara Avenue. The project is expected to wrap up next summer.

Illia said NDOT has been in contact with EDC organizers and coordinated plans with them.

Suggested alternate routes for northbound U.S. 95 traffic include Boulder Highway, Charleston Boulevard and Eastern Avenue. Southbound traffic can use Valley View Boulevard, Rancho Drive and Decatur Boulevard.

NDOT urges motorists to use the Waze navigation app to steer around the closure.

Martin Luther King Boulevard also will be closed at U.S. 95 this weekend.
