Letter to the editor:

Our president is ill-equipped

The No. 1 job of the president is national security. President Donald Trump and his base feel like the world is out to get him. It is difficult to focus on a job when he is distracted by his chaotic administration and his own disorderly ruminations and tweets.

Other world leaders are exploiting his ego, and his insistence on tariffs is squeezing our economy.

He demands loyalty and offers none. Reputations of people like Rex Tillerson, H.R. McMaster and John Kelly are tainted by their service in the Trump administration. Forty-nine percent of his administration officials have resigned or been dismissed.

Trump crowed about extreme vetting for immigrants, but he did no vetting of his nominations of Dr. Ronny Jackson, Ben Carson or Tom Price, among others.

He is still campaigning with his base but he doesn’t know how to govern. He gets a lot of his policy ideas from Fox News, like pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris climate accord.

He came into the job with a burden of excessive pride weighing him down. He doesn’t know history, doesn’t read and doesn’t learn from his past flip-flops and low poll numbers.
