Workers are nearly finished with excavation at the Raiders stadium site, having hauled away some 35,000 truckloads of dirt — more than 1 million cubic yards, officials said today at a meeting of the Las Vegas Stadium Authority.

The 450 workers swarming the 70-acre site have so far done $246 million worth of work, including $40 million in April, said Don Webb, chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Stadium Co.

And the pace — and spending — is only going to increase.

By early next year, there will be 1,500 construction workers on site, and developers will be spending up to $4 million a day in the mad dash to finish the $1.84 billion stadium in time for the Raiders to kick off the 2020 season there, officials said.

UNLV will also play at the new domed stadium, which is being built just west of Interstate 15 across from Mandalay Bay.

Once construction ramps up, there will be some 20 massive cranes at the site, the largest of them about 600 feet tall and able to lift more than 1,000 tons, officials said.

The stadium is being funded with $850 million from the Raiders, $750 million in Clark County hotel room tax revenue and a $250 million loan from the NFL.

In March, the room tax brought in $4.59 million for the project. Since March 2017, it has generated $53.23 million.
