Carson City man pleads guilty in woman’s 2013 death

CARSON CITY — A Carson City man has pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge in the 2013 death of a 19-year-old woman after his previous convictions in the case were overturned.

The Nevada Appeal reported Thursday that Leonardo Cardoza had been sentenced to life with possibility of parole for killing Desiree Bragg after ramming his car into Bragg and smashing her body into her mother's house in 2013.

He had also been sentenced to 60-150 months for deadly weapon enhancement.

Both of those convictions were overturned by the Nevada Supreme Court which ruled that the evidence did not prove that the killing was "willful, deliberate and premeditated."

District Attorney Jason Woodbury says Cardoza could receive life in prison after serving 10 years or a definite term of 25 years in prison with parole possible after 10 years.
