Vegas Golden Knights fans celebrate during a watch party for Game 6 of the NHL hockey second-round playoffs on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Toshiba Plaza outside T-Mobile Arena. The Golden Knights shut out the San Jose Sharks to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

The Golden Knights are four wins away from capturing the Stanley Cup in their inaugural season, but Las Vegas and Clark County officials are already making tentative plans for a celebration.

“I think this has to be a big, blowout celebration,” Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said as the Golden Knights prepared to face the Washington Capitals at home on Monday for Game 1.

“We’re all excited for what this group of ice hockey players have done,” said Goodman, who suggested a parade from downtown Las Vegas to T-Mobile Arena. “They’ve captured everyone’s hearts in Southern Nevada, and it’s been fun rooting them on all year.”

Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak said he’s already talked to Metro Police and the county’s Department of Public Works about a potential parade. The one group that doesn’t want to get ahead of things, however, is the Golden Knights, he said.

“The Golden Knights really don’t want to have this discussion; there’s some level of superstition involved,” Sisolak said. “They don’t want to jinx anything revolving around any celebrations regarding their playoff success.”

Metro Police officials said they were contacted this week about making preliminary plans for a parade and have already started.

Metro has “a lot of experience dealing with major events due to our tourism and annual events that we have here,” Officer Larry Hadfield said.

Sisolak said he is looking forward to a celebration.

“This is our version of the Triple Crown. It’s the last race we’re in right now, and we’re Justify,” he said, making reference to the horse that’s already won this year’s Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. “This is history that will never be repeated.”
