LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Letter: Respect for truth is eroding

Rex Tillerson spoke at a university commencement, and the subject of his speech was truth and its importance in a free society. He said when you “wobble” on the truth, you risk “wobbling” on freedom.

I don’t think there was any doubt about the target of his remarks as he mentioned lying about small things leading to lying about all things. He spoke about accepting “alternative facts” as pandering to untruth. The Trump administration has become the place where honesty goes to die.

We must seek the truth and demand that it be sought in all matters of import to our nation. I am not a big Tillerson fan, but I can’t help feel that his exposure and familiarity with the Trump regime helped choose his topic, which is both funny and disturbing. We are being lied to at such levels today that we are now listening to a former oil executive preach to us about truth and honesty. While he may be right in what he said, he shouldn’t be looked to for advice on morals and ethics.
