Make it double-digit wins this season for the Foothill Falcons.

Foothill improved to 10-1 on the year by beating Durango 30-13 in the first round of the playoffs Friday night. The Falcons scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to pull away from the Trailblazers.

“We were just able to tempo them and run the ball in the second half,” Foothill coach Marty Redmond said. “We couldn’t run the ball in the first half, and then we did a much better job. We did a good job mixing it up.”

Two of the three second-half touchdowns came from the arm of junior Koy Riggin, who hit senior Devon Cabrales for scores. Senior Jordan Blakeley also scored on the ground, with the Falcons’ running game fortunes turning around with the emergence of freshman Kendrick Thomas.

Not that the Falcons ever played as poorly as the score may have indicated early in the third quarter. They were down 13-9, but that was largely from a fourth-down stop deep in Durango’s territory and a turnover.

Redmond was confident Foothill would turn it around, and it did so behind Riggin and Cabrales.
