The high school football playoffs nearly featured an upset tonight.

Sure, Arbor View was expected to beat Desert Pines in the Mountain Region semifinals. The same was true for Faith Lutheran against Canyon Springs.

But, at this stage of the season, when quality teams are facing quality teams, anything can happen. And it nearly did.

Arbor View erased a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter against Desert Pines for a thrilling 28-21 victory. The Aggies stopped Desert Pines at the 2-yard line on the last play of the game to secure the come from behind win.

Faith Lutheran used a 29-point fourth quarter to overcome a double-digit deficit at Canyon Springs, advancing to face Arbor View in next week's Mountain Region championship game.

In the Desert Region, Bishop Gorman opened its state championship defense with a 70-7 win against Basic. Liberty also cruised with a 35-0 victory against Desert Oasis. Sierra Vista and Foothill were the other winners.

Click on the score for the game recap. We'll return tomorrow for Moapa Valley's 3A semifinal game against Truckee.
