LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Turn the page on controversies

Now that the midterm elections are over, we will no longer hear certain words and topics discussed.

“Caravan” will no longer draw gasps. There won’t be 15,000 armed troops assembling at the border. “Rocks” will no longer fall into the “gun” category and neither side of the political spectrum will breathe the words “health care” or “pre-existing conditions.”

A proposed Nov. 1 tax cut for the middle class was a pipe dream, and repealing the birthright citizenship provision in the Constitution was a smoke screen. Unlike Geronimo, Brett Kavanaugh will cease to be a battle cry.

Everything that seemed so important hours ago will be forgotten like yesterday’s burp.

Now, without a chance to catch our breath, the special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has become a raging battleground. Democrats hope to protect it, while President Donald Trump and his minions seek to shut it down.

Could it be, with Trump’s campaign chairman convicted and pleading guilty to multiple felony charges, his deputy campaign chairman awaiting sentencing and his personal lawyer spilling his guts and accusing the president of being an uncharged co-conspirator in election fraud, that maybe Mueller’s investigation will deliver the real enemy of the people — the huckster who sits in the Oval Office?
