2 jaywalkers sought in shooting death of Las Vegas motorist

An argument over jaywalking Monday night escalated into a fistfight that turned fatal when a suspect pulled out a weapon and opened fire, according to Metro Police.

The shooting occurred about 8:10 p.m. in the 1100 block of East Bonanza Road, near Maryland Parkway, where officers and medics arrived to find a gravely wounded man who later died at University Medical Center.

The victim was driving south on Maryland and approaching a green light when he and a passenger encountered two jaywalkers, police said.

An argument erupted in the street as the vehicle slowed down, and continued at a convenience store where the pedestrians had walked, police said.

As they entered the business, they were again confronted by the victim, who'd gotten out of his car, police said. A fistfight ensued outside and ended when one of the pedestrians pulled out a gun and shot him.

The suspects fled on foot.

They were described by police as black men ages 18 to 22. They stand 5 feet, 6 inches, to 5 feet, 8 inches, police said. One wore a gray sweatshirt and black pants while the other wore a black jacket over a white T-shirt.
