The first matchup was so good, they’ll do it again. This time, they are playing for a championship.

Host Arbor View and Faith Lutheran will renew their rivalry tonight in the Mountain Region championship game, where the winner earns a spot next weekend in Reno for the state semifinals.

In the regular season meeting, Arbor View prevailed 10-7 in a game that came down to the wire. Arbor View secured the victory in the final minute with an interception in the end zone.

When the teams played last season, Arbor View won by just three points.

It’s a matchup of conflicting styles. Arbor View has one of the best rushing attacks in the Las Vegas area; Faith Lutheran one of the best passing attacks. Both teams, no longer in the same region as Bishop Gorman, are playing for their first regional championship.

In the Desert Region, semifinal games aren’t expected to be as close.

Gorman, the nine-time defending state champion, hosts Foothill one week after posting a 70-7 victory. Liberty, the region’s other power, hosts Sierra Vista in the other semifinal.
