Las Vegas man gets 6 years in marijuana-trafficking scheme

A Las Vegas man who mailed marijuana to Pittsburgh, where it ended up in college campuses, was sentenced to six years in prison, the office of the U.S. attorney for the district of Western Pennsylvania announced Tuesday.

Ryan Schanck, 30, who was sentenced to 71 months, was caught in a multiyear operation, officials said.

Authorities had alleged that Schanck and co-conspirators trafficked up to 1,000 kilograms of the plant and laundered about $260,000 of its earnings, officials said.

The perpetrators, from 2012 to 2017, would ship the pot from the West Coast to the Pennsylvania area through the U.S. Postal Service, officials said.

Federal Judge David Cercone “stated that the sentence was sufficient, but not greater than necessary, to achieve the goals of sentencing,” officials said in a news release.
