Letter to the editor:

Disagree but don’t be divisive

David Brooks’ Oct. 8 column, “Reactions to Kavanaugh are a national disgrace,” was a thoughtful, incisive analysis of the need to “detoxify” (his word) political discussions between people who disagree on issues facing this country.

How sad that it was accompanied, on the same page, by two other columns (by Paul Krugman and Eugene Robinson) encouraging divisiveness, name-calling and hate.

I’m sure the same type of articles are appearing in other newspapers from the other side. It seems clear that rational people who disagree with, but respect, the opinions of others are outnumbered at least 2-to-1 on both sides of the political spectrum.
