Charles Blow, in his Oct. 6 column “Trump circus aims to offend and entertain,” got it wrong. He seems to believe that Trump supporters are mind-numbed robots incapable of thinking for ourselves.
“American exceptionalism” is our unabashed mantra. That is not to say we are superior to people of any other country. But what is exceptional about America is our founding principles. Never before had individual people been elevated to thinking of themselves as having rights endowed by God. Feudal systems were challenged and dismantled.
Blow says, “Trump is wielding a Jim Jones-level of influence and control over these people.” Nothing could be further from the truth. The country was being led into serfdom by left-leaning socialists. We Trump supporters galvanized around a leader who was willing to right the ship.
We are not haters; we are lovers of country and want the best for every American regardless of race, religion or any other persuasion.
