The Democracy Prep football team beat Western 35-6 on Friday to finish the season with a 3-7 record.
It was in a three-way tie with Del Sol and Valley for the last playoff spot, but that spot went to Del Sol on a tie-breaker.
“We could have made the playoffs. That is the disappointment for us, not making the playoffs,” said Democracy Prep coach Keith Jones.
Amar Smith passed for three touchdowns and rushed for another to lead Democracy Prep. Keionte Scott had a pair of touchdown receptions and Kelly Jones had the other.
Ramon Green scored on an 80-yard reverse.
It was Democracy Prep’s first season in the class 3A. It battled injuries, a small roster and not having a home field for a three-win season.
“I wouldn’t say the season was awful, but it could have easily been five wins,” Jones said.
