Mother in fatal central Las Vegas pedestrian crash has died

A mother struck by a pickup truck Monday evening in a central valley crosswalk has died, according to Metro Police.

Fatima Ahmadi, 25, was walking with her three children when she was struck in an accident which killed her 4-year-old son, Abdulwahab Noori. Daughters, ages 2 and 3, were injured but expected to make a full recovery.

On Wednesday, Metro Capt. Nick Farese said Ahmadi had a “virtually zero” chance of surviving. The Las Vegas resident died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center that same day, police said.

She became the 117th person killed in Metro patrolled roadways this year. Her son also died at Sunrise shortly after the 6:30 p.m. crash on Katie Avenue, near Maryland Parkway.

Police said the family had the right of way on a clearly marked crosswalk when a Dodge Ram pickup truck slammed into them.

The 74-year-old Las Vegas motorist did not show signs of impairment, police said. It wasn’t clear how fast he was traveling on the 25-mph zone.

Investigators determined the man apparently did not try to slow down, and likely didn’t see the pedestrians, nor did they the truck.

The crosswalk, marked by yellow pedestrian signs, is tucked in between two shopping centers.

The crash remained under investigation Thursday, police said.
