Bicyclist struck by car in central Las Vegas, critically injured

A car struck and critically injured a bicyclist on a central valley roadway Friday evening, according to Metro Police.

The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on the Decatur Boulevard and Cory Place, just north of Charleston Boulevard, police said.

Medics treated a 63-year-old Las Vegas man, who had been riding a mountain bike, and transported him to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

An investigation determined that a 1989 Honda Accord was heading north on Decatur and struck the bicyclist, who was traveling south and turned left onto heavy traffic, police said. There are no traffic signals at the intersection, police added.

The 23-year-old male motorist stayed at the scene and was not impaired, police said.

The crash remained under investigation by a Metro traffic fatality unit.
