Weekend Rewind: Judd Apatow, Air Supply, the ‘Vegas Royal Wedding’ and more

Any holiday three-day weekend in Las Vegas is sure to be stacked with epic events but Labor Day 2018 went above and beyond. This was mostly due to one of the most celebrated Vegas social events of the year, a weekend soiree at the Red Rock Resort some have been calling the “Vegas Royal Wedding.” Station Casinos scion Kelley Fertitta — daughter of CEO Frank Fertitta and noted lifestyle and fashion blogger/influencer with her younger sister, Victoria, via their Wilson Gabrielle brand — married Tyler Chad Nemiro Saturday in an elaborate ceremony and party featuring hundreds of guests, a skyscraping wedding cake and entertainment from Seal, Wynn Nightlife resident DJ Marshmello and Park Theater headliner Bruno Mars. John Mayer performed at the Friday rehearsal, hosted by celeb chef Scott Conant at his Masso Osteria restaurant. If you were wondering about all those beautiful purple and white flowers flooding your Instagram feed over the weekend, now you know.

On Thursday, before his concert at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan, singer and songwriter Jack Johnson hit the pawn shop-inspired retail store at the resort’s hip restaurant Beauty & Essex and ended up taking home a new treasure: A vintage Eastwood Airline ’59 Coronado metallic blue guitar. Johnson also paid a visit to Marquee Dayclub before taking the stage.

Superstar comedy producer Judd Apatow (“Girls,” “Knocked Up,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”) and his wife, actress Leslie Mann (“The Other Woman,” “This is 40”) made the Vegas rounds this weekend. They were spotted at Tao Nightclub at the Venetian Friday night and took in Mariah Carey’s “The Butterfly Returns” residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace later in the weekend.

Air Supply hit a major milestone at the Orleans.

Cast members from Bravo TV’s reality show “Vanderpump Rules” took over the Strip: Tom Sandoval, Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright dined at Beauty & Essex Friday before partying at Tao; Taylor and Cartwright hit the hilarious “Opium” at the Cosmopolitan Saturday night and took photos with the cast; and the Hollywood crew got together again at Tao and Marquee Sunday joined by Katie Maloney, Tom Schwartz and Lala Kent to celebrate Kent’s birthday. It turned out to be an engagement party as well as Kent and boyfriend Randall Emmett had just locked it down in Cabo before jetting to Vegas.

Frequent Vegas visitors Air Supply celebrated in a big way Saturday night. The Australian soft rock duo of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock played the 5,000th show of their incredible, four-decades-plus career in music, the second of a three-show run at the Orleans Showroom. Casino officials joined the duo for cake and Champagne before their historic performance.

The big weekend wrapped up with a quiet farewell to an iconic venue. The magic ensemble production “Masters of Illusion” presented its final performance at Bally’s Jubilee Theater Monday night and it looks to be the last show ever in that showroom, which currently seats just over 1,000. The space is still best known as the home of the sparkling showgirl classic “Jubilee!” for 35 years but will now give way to a massive renovation turning the venue into a customized facility for the new “Nitro Circus” stunt show roaring into the room in the spring. Consider it another layer of Vegas slathered atop Strip history.
