Metro Police say a man has been detained under suspicion of shooting his adult stepson in their home.
Investigators say the incident occurred Sunday night at a home near Torrey Pines Drive and Hacienda Avenue.
According to police, the two were arguing and the suspect had a baseball bat in his hand.
The stepson took it from him and then the stepfather retrieved a firearm.
Police say the stepson, who is in his mid-20s, was then shot in the torso.
The victim's mother called police.
He was found by officers in a bedroom and pronounced dead.
Lt. Ray Spencer says the suspect, who is in his 70s, and the mother were being questioned.
