Jose Luis Sanchez Sola, the Las Vegas Lights FC technical director, has left the team, the club announced today.
Sola, commonly known as “Chelis,” struggled through the team’s inaugural season, leading the team to a dismal 7-15-6 record. He was suspended twice early in the season, missing four games after poking an official following a game on April 30 and eight games for putting his hand on an opposing fan in Phoenix on June 13.
Following a 2-1 loss to the Portland Timbers 2 Sunday night at Cashman Field, Sola said, “I want to leave. Sincerely, I want to leave...Tomorrow, I’m going to talk with the owner. I don’t have the intention of continuing here.”
Today, the Lights announced Sola is no longer with the club.
“Our club’s goal firmly continues to be the next great American soccer success story both on and off the field,” owner Brett Lashbrook said in a statement. “We fully recognize that our results in all aspects must continue to improve to achieve this goal.”
A team spokesperson said Sola’s son Isidro Sánchez will continue coaching the team for the final six games of the season.
