The high school football season in Las Vegas hasn’t seen a local matchup like this.
Liberty, the eight-time defending regional champions in the class 4A, visits two-time defending 3A state champion Desert Pines in a matchup of powerhouse programs with multiple Division I players.
Desert Pines is undefeated after three games and appears to be getting better each week. One-win Liberty has scored just 32 points in three weeks, but two of its defeats have come against nationally ranked out-of-state opponents.
That sets the table for tonight’s game, which many believe is evenly matched.
Other games of note tonight include: Palo Verde against Shadow Ridge in the Northwest League, Silverado at Durango in the Southwest League opener, and a nonleague tilt between Centennial and host Coronado.
